The New Age 01:08
Time to move on to the newer age. The year is progress to the better day. A toast to leave luggage to dust away. This is cheers to the new age.
2.
I was walking through the mellow gold haze of the afternoon, my mind drifting off to the future as cars blared off speeding unsteadily through the traffic. The road that travels through Vitoria, the buzzing scenery, and sun-soaked sidewalks, Is the simple life worth living? Side-step the hours to wait for evening. At sunset we cheer, “Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!” To the ocean bed you rest. “We’ve seen another day!” And as the roses float on waves from shore away the sun will rise again. Well, I stayed close to gates and taller trees, smelled the cooling air as my mind wandered, stepped around the lights and figures as I passed by friends and neighbors. Well, I won’t be that fool, not one of them, who sees life ’til 21 then looks back on it. There’s no stopping only making the most out of goddamn everything. At sunset we cheer, “Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!” To the ocean bed you rest “We’ve seen another day!” And as the roses float on waves from shore away the sun will rise again.

Treetops 03:43
Because they’re like the others, because they’re all the same. I dreamt we’re undercover, we played it like a game. Sought out over water, on a wooden ship we sailed. The sea she was a fighter of legendary fame. In our yard, we’re going outside, Going through the waves. Stepped into the backyard we’re braving for today. The leaves shape my propeller, the wind blows us far from our yard. We’re flying and flying through trees. Sailing outside. Save this aging picture that we hold on to for days. In treetops undercover, the memory it will stay. Our flags are full of terror, the clouds stretch over our heads. The rain falls down for hours as we wait for the day we are flying and flying through trees. Sailing outside. In our yard we’re flying and flying through trees. Going outside.

Old Fire 04:31
Lights are comforting as shades of grey from white and black. Shine the light, pretty, through the cage to peer inside. Well, I suppose, in time. Down it slips, again, the old fire. On the road again, I’m travelin’ to sights afar. And all things to commit are feverish frights of what we’ll become. Well, I suppose, in time. Down it slips, again, the old fire. Feel you as I sleep, the breathing sighs in and out. The glimpse of home and peace always leave to pace my thoughts. Well, I suppose, in time. So, down it slips, again, the old fire. For a light in a cage as it burns through the days. I can hope that you stay for a while as I age for you.

Brother, we’re standing at the edge of buildings. It’s a long descent to scrape the bottom. The rhythms and standards of modern living, they weld our feet into a growth of scenery. Towers burn the night sky into glimmer: the shooting stars we sink our hope in. Dreaming to be a corporate explorer who will battle deadlines and burn the midnight oil. But, in the event of failure when all of my efforts compromise. The rubble rises in place of buildings. God I’m trying, God I’m trying, God I’m trying. What futures will say to me, “It goes on, on, on. And I know I’ll see you there standing free.” All of your worth it slowly falters. Even all the good ones crumble. Your treading breaks into distinct stumbling and all you see is broken travesty. But, in the event of failure when all of my efforts compromise. The rubble rises in place of buildings. God I’m trying, God I’m trying, God I’m trying. To future selves that sulk in failure: the pain is a temporary tide. What heartaches will bring you to crippling stature. Seize the times, stay alive, stay alive. And I know I’ll see you there standing free. If you feel yourself moving, then keep on going. Keep on fighting that sinking spirit. The struggle is tiring, but you’ll see through it. And I will see you there standing free from the life, in the light, in your life form I know we’ll be as one, standing free, going out with me.

Perpetuator 04:10
Heaven knows you’re on, But the feeling’s getting off There’s a light, there’s a life, That you wish you were on. How you sigh yourself to sleep To ease the better dreams, Floating off of the ground, Floating off to the way which you belong. The demon on your sheets, The dreams that take your sleep Through the night, through the night Until morning drags you out How you wander back and forth Absorbing the remorse And you’re on, and you’re off. Until memories set again. Oh, the reasons I’m not sure in what to believe in Help me, God, I think you’re just a thought that is leaving Get into your car, Turn the engine on, For a drive through the night Through lights that stretch through dark And the thoughts come streaming out The guilty and bitter hours To resolve, to resolve As morning sets again Oh, the reasons I’m not sure in what to believe in Help me, God, I think you’re just a thought and I don’t know what to believe in.

Oh, hysteria is calming me down. Shoot you to the ground, shoot you on the ground. How slowly the second hand ticks it’s the antics of the slippery conscience. It’s weighing you down. Oh, we’re running in circles, running through the green, running into the grave. Slippery slopes won’t bring you certainty. It’s not the magazines that drip blood from her lips or curse the gun with your fingerprints. So, keep your worried mind at ease and free your body from the disease. You’re running down the slippery slope, blurring the discrepancies. So, please keep all your guns safe at hand, understand that I don’t want any of your demons treading down around me. If jealousy is a gun then I’ll shoot it straight out at you. Infuriate your body, infuriate your mind. Get you cold inside.

Resolutions 02:58
I believe in the road to resolution. If you’re mad for months and drained from the frustrations. I can’t change what I’ve done, all the things I didn’t become. But, I can see that I am going to go on. I feel hope, that in the end, there’s resolution. From the tired lines carved in you from exhaustion. I can’t help it if I’m lost, all the wandering that I’ve done. But, I’m smarter now, and I’ll make it in the long run. I see you differently from now on, how you’ve changed and grown some. I can see that you are going to go on So, keep believing all you’ve done, and that things do carry on. If you’re feeling lost then know that there is truth in the road to resolution. If you’ve been dead for months and now you feel sensations. I’m sorry for what I’ve done, for everything I didn’t become But I can see that we will make it in the long run.

Endless days stretch light and darkness. Meander on through highs and in through the lows. Through bitter days, through bitter hours, Stretch the shadows from piles strewn across the floor. They’re going through holes, going through homes, wandering alone. The episodes of flickering bulbs. And all the lights downtown they’ll fly by, they all fly by. Tell me when you’re in doubt, Are you feeling like you’ve given it all? You’re wandering more through whispering ghosts. You’re wandering through homes, looking for holes. If there are lines on your sleeve Pushing to see out your gravity. Stretching it out until you take it off. The age on your skin is feeling rough. If there are ghosts, then they are with me. To mend all my thoughts into a seam. All of the things were better then. All of the words are slipping in to capture the cause. If there are lines on your sleeve. Pushing to see out your gravity. Stretching it out until you take it off. The age on your skin is feeling rough. If there are ghosts, then they are with me. To mend all my thoughts into a seam. “All of the things were better then. All of the words were better then.” Capture the cause, catch all the costs, stretch out the skin, wander through homes looking for holes.

When a tidal wave hones to the shore. The ocean standing up on its toes. Out of sea, onto your home. You will be submerged under. There are many things I would like to say. Oh, there are many things, I would like to say. And you will wave the death wave, Blurring the good days to a color swirl. Oh, and you will sing songs to ease us, The sound waves will travel through the walls. When sickly cells attack your bones. Forming blots of tissue demons. You will cough up a bloodstorm And have your sheets soaked in cold. There are many things I would like to say. Oh, there are many things, I would like to say. And you will wave the death wave, Blurring the good days to a color swirl. Oh, and you will sing songs to ease us, The sound waves will travel through the walls.

about

"a pleasant surprise" - Time Out Chicago

"What you will hear is some extremely well-crafted indie rock packed with a serious amount of feeling - sometimes uplifting, sometimes darkly desperate and most often a powerful mixture of both." - Windy City Rock

"It’s easy to hear all the emotion that Chicago quintet were trying to put into this album through open-hearted lyrics and intricate song. With its dreamy, indie rock sound and well done craftsmanship, Death Wave shows that the sky is definitely the limit for Hemmingbirds.” - Loud Loop Press

"A remarkable debut...Death Wave is a fusion of indie-pop and rock that is worthy of comparison to the always hype-able Arcade Fire, or Raleigh’s similarly-minded Annuals." - Chicago Tunes

“This album has really good production and never loses it’s focus, quite an achievement over the span of 10 songs. Chicago based Hemmingbirds should be proud of this album that places them firmly on the list of great Chicago indie bands.” - Dedicated Ears

"Absolutely incredible, front to back." - The Indie Machine

"a kaleidoscope of sonically engaging pop rock songs." - Smile Politely

"Little nuances like the band's use of viola, the handclaps in 'Treetops' and buzzing in just the right places make Death Wave familiar enough for people to be drawn to it but unique enough to prove that Hemmingbirds has a strong pool of musical talent to pull from." - Reviewsic
